Rebound Rumble: The Game

“The Rebound RumbleSM robotics game is played between two Alliances of three teams each. Each Alliance competes by trying to score as many of the basketballs in the hoops as possible during the 2-minute and 15-second match. Balls scored in higher hoops score Alliances more points. Alliances are awarded bonus points if they are balanced on bridges at the end of the match. In matches where opponent Alliances work together to balance on the white bridge, all participating teams earn additional valuable seeding points.”  via FIRST FRC

Hybrid Period:  First 15 Seconds

The first 15-seconds of each match is the Hybrid Period.  During this period, the robot acts without any human imput- it is programmed to score and/or move completely independently of the drive station.  Baskets scored during this period are worth extra points.  After the buzzer sounds, the Drive Teams step forward to control the robot.  The Drive Team-controlled period is known as Tele-op or the Tele-operated Period.

At the end of the match, robots that are balanced on bridges recieve additional points.  Double the robots on a bridge means double the points.  Occasionally, alliances will try a triple-robot bridge balance.  This usually happens when the alliance is so far behind their opponent that the only way they could win would be an additional 30 points.  (Mostly, it doesn’t work, but balancing bridges can be an exciting buisness– you haven’t seen anything until a robot flips over.)

The white FIRST bridge center field does not award match points.  Alliances only recieve points off of the white bridge if they are balanced with a robot from the opposing alliance.  Points recieved from the so-called “coopertition bridge” will count towards a team’s seed during the Qualification Matches.  For the most part, the only time a white bridge is touched during the Elimination Matches is the very beginning, because balls are placed on the bridge at the beginning of each match.
