Daredevils Participate in the Duluth Sister City Day of Peace Celebration
Last Friday September 21, 2018, the Daredevils attended the International Day of Peace Celebration in Duluth, MN. The celebration was hosted by the Duluth Sister Cities International Initiative, which encourages an understanding between nations by way of connecting communities together. Speakers talked about the Sister City Initiative, including former Duluth mayor, Gary Doty.
While there, the Daredevils demonstrated their past robots and taught people how to drive them. We also explained to the community how we helped the FIRST Robotics team in Växjö, Sweden, the Vikings, start the first FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) team in Sweden.
In 2017, members of the Daredevils met with students and mentors in Växjö, Sweden who were interested in starting up a FIRST robotics team. They sent the new team a starting kit with chassis components to begin building their robot. They had their robot completed by October of 2017. In March of 2018, the Vikings flew in to compete in the Northern Lights Regional in Duluth, MN. There, they won 3 of their matches and won the Rookie Inspiration Award! They flew back home after the regional had ended, but they have high hopes of coming back next year for the competition season. We can’t wait to see our beloved Vikings from Växjö, Sweden again!
